Avanti West Coast – what’s in store
Since taking over the West Coast Main Line service in December 2019 you might have noticed a few changes. But, as we look towards the future we’re also going to be making a few improvements of our own to make Avanti West Coast the best travel experience imaginable.
All for you
Our focus is and always will be on you, the customer. We want to make sure you enjoy exceptional service, all day, every day – as standard.
Everything we’ve got in the pipeline has our customers in mind, from extra trains and more direct services, to train improvements and more accessible stations. It’s all about making a cleaner, greener railway that’s a pleasure to use.
23 new trains
Our diesel Voyager trains are grabbing their pipes and slippers and heading off for their well-earned retirement. They’ll be replaced by £350 million worth of 23 brand new Hitachi trains. And they'll be kitted out to the same high standard as the rest of our fleet.
Refurbished Pendolinos
We love our Pendolino trains, but we think they deserve a bit of a makeover. We’ll be revamping our entire Pendolino fleet with more comfortable seats, refurbished toilets, more luggage space and a shiny new on-board shop. They’ll feel like brand new trains.
Extra services
We’re operating one of the busiest railway lines in all of Europe so we think it’s only right that we make it the best. That’s why we’ve got plans to put on an extra 263 services each week. We’re connecting the whole of the UK with more trains running to Liverpool, Motherwell and Llandudno from December 2022. Watch this space.
Simpler tickets
We’re making our tickets easier to understand so that you’re crystal clear on how to get the most value for money. And we’re making them easier than ever to buy, exchange and claim refunds when delays occur. Expect new ticket offices at selected stations, new ticket machines and new ways to pay online.
More accessible travel
Everyone should be able to enjoy the benefits of fast, convenient train travel, so we’re making it easier than ever to get around on our trains. There’ll be more assistance on trains and in the station, an improved, more accessible Journey Planner tool for online bookings, and Changing Places toilets at three more stations.
A more sustainable service
Train travel is already one of the most environmentally friendly ways to get around the country, but we’re always looking for ways to do better. From more efficient energy, fuel and water usage, to our investments in solar energy and rainwater harvesting, we’re making a cleaner, greener railway. Because we don’t want train travel to cost the earth.
