Sometimes plans change and the train tickets you've booked need amending to a different date or time. Don't worry - we understand.

Need to change your train ticket?

Whether you've decided to stay for another week, something has come up and you need to postpone your travels, or you simply just want to change your journey and any travel extras then the information below should point you in the right direction.

Please note: All ticket amendments should be requested where you originally bought your ticket. For tickets purchased through another retailer, you'll need to get in touch with them directly for advice on changes.

Bought from our website or app?

Did you buy your tickets on our website or app? If yes, and you want to change your journey, the best place to do it is via our app.

By downloading our Avanti West Coast app you'll be able to change your journey date, time and seat for Advance, Anytime and Off-Peak tickets (ts and cs apply - please see Ts & Cs at the bottom of this page).

Bought from a ticket office or machine?

If you booked your tickets via our ticket machines or ticket offices, please return to the station where you bought your tickets for help with changing your journey.

Changing your journey on our website

On our website you can change your journey date and time if:

  • You have an Advance, Anytime or Off-Peak ticket
  • You have an E-ticket or an uncollected paper ticket
  • You have not purchased any journey extras such as Plus Bus, Travel Card or a bike reservation
  • There is availability for the date and time you have selected

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Sign In to your Avanti West Coast account at avantiwestcoast.co.uk
  2. Go to 'My account'
  3. Select the journey you've pre-purchased that you wish to change the date/time of. Click 'Manage my booking'
  4. Click "Change time/date" within the journey's detail page
  5. Select a new date and time for your journey's outward and return trains  
  6. Select your preferred new tickets for both outwards and return. Travel extras can be added or removed at this step
  7. Checkout as normal, paying any outstanding balance such as an admin fee or the difference in cost if you've selected a more expensive ticket
  8. Your journey's date and time of travel will now be updated

On our app you can change your journey date, time and seat if:

Step-by-step instructions

1. Open the app and make sure you're signed in (top right)

2. Go to 'My Tickets'

3. Select the journey you've pre-purchased that you wish to change the date/time/seat of

4. Tap "Change date/time/seat" if this is not available your ticket is not valid for change of journey

5. Select a new date/time/seat for your journey's outward and return trains

6. Select your preferred new tickets for both outwards and return

7. Checkout as normal, paying any outstanding balance such as an admin fee or the difference in cost if you've selected a more expensive ticket

8. Once you have confirmed your changes, your journey's date and time of travel will be updated
