Who can use a Senior Railcard?

Anyone aged 60 or over can get a Senior Railcard. You can purchase it up to two weeks before your 60th birthday if you buy online, but you can only use it from the day of your birthday onwards - perfect for taking a big birthday trip! If you buy from a station, you must be aged 60 or over at the time of purchase.  
Whenever you buy it, this Railcard is great for those who love to travel by train. Whether you’re taking big trips across the country or visiting family nearby, it’s the best way to save on train travel.

Where can I buy a Senior Railcard?

Just head to our Railcard Hub to buy or apply for one.
Once you’re all signed up, you can start using your Railcard to receive 1/3 off your train fares with us.


How to use your Senior Railcard

When your Senior Railcard arrives, sign it and keep it safe. The next time you’re taking a trip on an Avanti West Coast train, be sure to bring your Railcard with you so you can present it on-board the train.
If you’re buying your ticket at the station, just present your card and we’ll reduce the fare for you.

How to buy and use a digital Railcard

It’s easy to buy a Senior Railcard online - just head to our hub or app and enter your details. You’ll need:

  • A valid debit or credit card
  • Proof of eligibility to show that you’re aged 60 or over
  • A passport-style photo, which you can take with your phone
  • Your personal details

Once you’ve downloaded your digital Railcard, you can start booking tickets instantly. Just choose Senior Railcard from the dropdown list when booking tickets online and we’ll apply the discount automatically. 
You can also buy a Senior Railcard at any National Rail staffed station ticket office or National Rail-licensed Travel Agent. You can do it on the day you are travelling, just ensure the ticket office is open and make sure to bring proof of ID along with you.
