About Heaton Park
Heaton Park’s rich history stretches back to the 17th century. At this time, it was owned by the Holland family.
In the late 18th century, Sir Thomas Egerton commissioned renowned architect James Wyatt to design Heaton Hall and other structures around the park. Over the years, the estate became a focal point for Manchester's elite, before being sold to the Manchester Corporation in 1902.
Today, Heaton Park covers over 600 acres and remains one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. It is listed as a Grade II park on the English Heritage Register and features several listed buildings.
Thanks to restoration efforts funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the park’s historical landscape and architecture have been preserved. Now, visitors for years to come can enjoy the area.
