What to do at the Keswick Mountain Festival

Keswick Mountain Festival is captivating, set against the backdrop of Derwentwater and Borrowdale.

It's here that festival-goers can camp, explore and enjoy a range of outdoor activities across the four-day weekend. These include running, cycling, swimming, hiking, caving, and more, which are all open for visitors to watch or take part in.

Some events were rolled back for the 2023 festival. However, there’s still plenty to challenge and entertain friends and families.

You can take on trail runs of 5km, 10km, 25km, and 50km across some of the UK’s most challenging terrain. Or, you can enjoy a guided hike across the Borrowdale Skyline or Stoneycroft Ghyll Scramble. Alternatively, you can try your hand at rock climbing, canoeing or field archery.

Once you’ve had your fill of the fresh air, you can listen to live music by local artists. You'll find them performing at the Theatre by the Lake, The Pocket Cafe Bar, or the Crafty Baa. There are also films shown at the Keswick Alhambra.

That's not all, as you can explore the Festival Village for a delicious meal and a couple of pints in one of Keswick’s pubs, cafes, or restaurants.

Board a train anywhere between Glasgow Central and London Euston towards Penrith North Lakes. From this station, you can then take a local bus service directly to the Keswick Festival site.

About Keswick Mountain Festival

Keswick Mountain Festival started in 2007 and is now based in Crow Park on the banks of Derwentwater. Lake Derwentwater is 3 miles long and 1 mile wide giving you some amazing views if you and the family decide to head to Keswick Mountain Festival.

The area attracts over 20,000 visitors a year and is also a haven for sports and adventure lovers. It's the ideal setting to try out new activities and enjoy music and arts in this rural part of The Lake District.

Held between 19 and 21 May 2023, the mountain festival has been scaled but will be no less fun. An opportunity to meet new friends, take on a fresh challenge or experience the beauty of the Lakes in early summer, the event also funds National Trust projects that protect and make the surrounding countryside more accessible to everyone.
