About Riverside Museum

Riverside Museum is a purpose-built museum curated by Glasgow Life, the first of its kind in the 21st century. It was opened back in 2011 after a four-year building period.

Its exhibits and collections have been put together over many years. They aim to highlight the importance of Glasgow’s contributions. From shipbuilding and train manufacturing, the museum displays everything Glaswegian transport and technology.

The museum features over 3,000 objects and 90 touchscreen panels. You'll see a whole range of artifacts from vintage cars to skateboards and prams. Visitors can go back in time as they discover the city’s important history.

It was designed by architect Dame Zaha Hadid. Hadid describes the museum’s unique architecture as an extension of ‘Glasgow’s rich engineering traditions’. The architect predicts that it ‘will be a part of the city’s future as a centre of innovation.’

Opening hours at the museum are usually 10am - 5pm, with doors opening a little later (11am) on Fridays and Sundays. Riverside Museum tickets are completely free, making it a great option to check out if you’re visiting Glasgow or you live locally.
