Our luggage policy
Please make sure that your luggage does not exceed 30 x 70 x 90cm in size.
Avanti West Coast trains are streamlined for speed, but because of this, our small internal doors won’t allow for big luggage. With that in mind, it’s always better to bring two smaller cases than one huge one. Then you can store your luggage overhead easily without blocking the aisles for other passengers.
Where can I store my luggage?
Dedicated luggage areas
For larger suitcases that won’t fit overhead (not exceeding 30 x 70 x 90 cm), we have luggage areas near the internal doors on each carriage.
Overhead luggage racks
Medium-sized cases and large bags – around the size of aeroplane cabin-luggage – can be stored above your seat on our luggage racks.
Beneath your seat
Small cases, shopping bags and handbags can all fit under your seat.
Consider other passengers
For the safety and comfort of our passengers, we can’t allow any baggage to obstruct doorways, walkways and vestibules, or to be placed on seats intended for others. If your luggage exceeds the free allowance, we may have to charge you extra to bring it on board.
During our busiest times – Friday evenings, weekends and throughout the festive period – there are more passengers travelling with luggage. If possible, we ask that you travel light with just a cabin luggage-sized bag. You’ll help everyone’s journey run more smoothly, and you’ll have an easier time getting on and off the train.
