Things to do in Tamworth

If you love your history, a visit to Tamworth Castle is a must. It can date its story back to just after the end of the Roman Empire, through Saxons, the Medieval period, Tudors, Stuarts, Georgians and Victorians. It was even depicted by J. M. W. Turner in 1832. You can only imagine the stories of derring-do that surround it, all brought vividly to life with a tour of the walls and rooms. Some even say it’s haunted, so be prepared.

Thrill rides galore are the order of the day at Drayton Manor. It’s located just on the outskirts of town and is easily the top attraction in the area. It’s not only for thrill-seekers, of course. There’s a zoo, mini golf and the famous Thomas Land, dedicated to every child’s favourite tank engine. You can even stay at the on-site hotel to get the most out of your stay.

A few hours of frosty fun is guaranteed at Tamworth Snow Dome. As well as a massive 170-metre main slope, there’s also ice skating, tobogganing, climbing, swimming), a gym, shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. It’s a brilliant complex for lovers of fitness and winter sports, so whether you’re practising for Courchevel or just entertaining the kids, you’ll find fulfilment on- and off-piste.
