Major upgrade work this Easter

18 April to 21 April 2025

We strongly recommend you travel either side of Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April this Easter. No trains will run to and from London Euston station on these three days while Network Rail carry out improvement work, and other parts of the West Coast Main Line are also affected. If you do need to travel during the Easter weekend, please plan ahead and make a reservation, as your journey will take much longer. Trains on Maundy Thursday (17 April) and Good Friday (18 April) are expected to be busy.

No trains to or from London Euston

From Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April, journeys to London will change:

  • Avanti West Coast trains to London will end at Milton Keynes Central station
  • Replacement buses will take you to Bedford
  • From there you can catch a train to London St Pancras, just down the road from Euston

Travelling from London? Connect to Avanti West Coast services via the route above, but in reverse.

Or you may be able to get a direct train from another London station. For example, trains to Birmingham go from London Marylebone with Chiltern Railways. Trains to Edinburgh run from London King’s Cross with LNER.

Search ‘London Terminals’ in our online journey planner to find the quickest way from A to B.

No Avanti West Coast trains to or from Scotland

From Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April, Avanti West Coast trains through the North West into Scotland will start and end at Carlisle. This is due to Network Rail’s improvement work in the Kingmoor area, north of Carlisle. Replacement buses will take you from Carlisle to Glasgow or Carlisle to Edinburgh.

Use our online journey planner to find the quickest way from A to B this Easter.

No trains to or from Stockport

Stockport station is closed for major engineering work from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 April. This is as part of Network Rail's Greek Street bridge replacement. If you're travelling to or from Stockport or Macclesfield, you'll need to take a replacement bus. Avanti West Coast trains between Manchester and London will go by a different route to avoid the Stockport engineering work, with journeys taking longer as a result.

Accessible replacement buses

We’re lifting Peak restrictions

To keep you moving this Easter and help you save those pennies, we’re lifting our Peak restrictions. This means all Avanti West Coast trains from Thursday 17 April to Monday 21 April inclusive are Off-Peak. Buy an Off-Peak ticket for these dates and get all the flexibility you need – travel at any time.
